someone claimed up there that the song 'a whiter shade of pale' by procol harum also featured the canon chord progression. that is what i responded to....for some reason it got posted down here and not as a response, even though i clicked on the reply button...

It was written in 1680, but wasnt really popular till Paillards chamber orchestra played it in 1790.
