Finally, playing to his potential. Live Beck is superior to any studio endeavor, save for Blow By Blow. The problem since that epic recording is that each proceeding effort only offers one, maybe two, gems per recording. Recently, I came across a recording, available on Borders catalogue in which the ultimate delivery is made; a stunning version of Tommy Bolin's: Stratosphere. Rumor has it that Jeff Beck is collaborating with Joan Osborne and Joss Stone on recording or Motown classics...

the rather shy and quiet non sensation seeking mega star.......Jeff deserves a lot better but he lets his talent and expertise speak for themselves......not a lot of musicians can actually show the world what you can do with a Strat and show it like Jeff does.

I agree with you that he's overrated. He's never impressed me. His tone is unoriginal and his playing is boring imo. Nothing appeals to me at all. Hell, i think John Mayer is a better, more original player than Jeff beck.

John Mayer is more original than Jeff Beck? I can't even begin to tell you how idiotic that statement is, considering Beck makes melodies with the WHAMMY bar and two fingers.. John is a good player, but he's NOTHING special compared to the ranks of Jeff. John plays the same pentatonic stuff 8 million other players do, and he solely copies SRV and Hendrix.. he openly admits it.
Jeff's tone is amazing, his playing is unique.. you fail. Thanks :)

Ok how does he play like that without a pic? As you can tell by my question I'm a novice when it comes to the guitar. I'm just curious because it sounds like he's using a pic but when the camara does a closeup it's just his fingers. From what I understand, the pic is used for precision, I thought he was using one but he's not.
